On Sunday, the Sawchestra piled into a van and headed to Angel, islington, to perform our live score of 'The Adventures of Prince Achmed' at the Little Angel Theatre, as part of the 'Reel Islington' festival. Ive also stumbled across a little video intro on youtube of our previous performance at The Marlborough Theatre in Brighton: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAkcK5tcLvg Our London performance featured some new faces, as well as solos from each saw player. We've been invited to do it again in London, in September, but without the 'audience playing along' element....updates on that when I know more!--------------------------------------------Going away from the Sawchestra, (just a little anyways) our leader Foz Foster is onboard to start co-writing the music for my huge upcoming project: This is going to be HUGE. Its currently in the writing stage with aerialist, Kitty Peels, and will be a surreal and dark story, put onstage with circus performers and live music (you bet therell be plenty of saw!). More news and snippets when they happen.... ------------------------------------------ Aaaaand finally, its with great joy i can say once more; All Aboard, the Hendrick's Horseless Carriage of Curiosities! I spent lots of time last year onboard the Carriage of Curiosities, getting exchanging stories for gin. Definately a fair swap.
This year, I'll be onboard again, this time for the Fringe festival in my hometown of Brighton. Expect plenty of onboard sawing! Do drop by and see our beautiful carriage from the 20th - 30th May, in Jubilee Square, right by the library. Bring your curious tales, and share a gin with us. :)

'Circus' This one is a dark spoken word track. Paying the tiiiiiny amount to download it, will go towards my NYC Musical Saw Festival fund! Its in July, and Id love to go to represent a bit of UK eccentricity! If not this year, then next year, as its a lot to raise! Go to the donate page above if you just wanna contribute without downloading anything. ------------- Had a rehearsal with the wonderful Sawchestra today, in preparation for our live 'Prince Achmed' puppet film score show on the 27th March at the Little Angel Theatre in Angel, Islington. You can buy tickets for a mere £5 here. Its a family friendly event, and audience members are invited to join in with our huge collection of found instruments. The Adventures of Prince Achmed is a truly beautiful lost treasure- filmed entirely with shadow puppets in 1926, we will be adding haunting melodies & soundscapes...come along! ---------------- In other news, advice for new saw players- dont leave your saw on the floor, you may tread on it and cut your foot, like I did not a moment ago. Ouch. My musical saw was a birthday present from when I turned 27. I spent my 28th birthday weekend playing saw onstage with Gentlemen & Assassins- Elyas Khan, Sxip Shirey & Brian Viglione. Pretty bloody cool. SUCH an honour to play with those guys, especially since the Dresden Dolls were one of the first bands to drag me screaming into the world of neo-cabaret and, then, into playing the musical saw. I played on a track called Flame Girl, by the Nervous Cabaret (Khans band) which you can hear here: Nervous Cabaret on bandcamp. I also dabbled in a bit of memory-lane busking in the Pavilion Gardens with one of my best friends from London, Esther, who plays in a wonderful band called Quiet Choir. ---------- As the weather is getting better now, Im looking to get back on the streets of Brighton busking with my saw! Should anyone in brighton reading this wanna do some duet stuff on the streets with me, do get in touch, I do so love to play with other musicians! [email protected] ----------- UP NEXT! Ill be adding a dash of saw to Rocket Lolly; at this weeks 'Silver Wednesday', which will be curated by one of my newest musical heroines, Sarah Angliss. Sarah recently did a fascinating talk for TEDxBrighton called 'Loving the machine'. You just gotta see it. Im always banging on about Silver Wednesday- its brightons best kept secret! Every Wednesday at the Marlborough Theatre. We show vintage film- ranging from 1950s infomercials to 1920s pornography. Sometimes I serve popcorn and gin in teacups, and play a little saw if I dont help myself to too much of the gin.... The 27th of March will see me performing once more with the SAWCHESTRA! We'll be reprising our live score for the silent 20s shadow puppet film 'The adventures of Prince Achmed' at the Little Angel Theatre in er, Angel, Islington. |
